Mackerel is so abundant that even mackerel festivals are held in Korea every year, and its hearty flavor has made it famous nationwide. Today, try braising mackerel with radish in a rich, savory, and spicy sauce—the perfect dish to finish a bowl of rice in no time!

Suggested Ingredients (for 2 servings):
2 small mackerels (about 400g), 1 radish (or potato or aged kimchi), 1 onion, 1 green chili, 1 red chili, ⅓ stalk of green onion, 1½ cups water (300ml).

Cooking Method:

1. Place radish and onion slices at the bottom of a pot, then add the cleaned mackerel on top. (Placing radish at the bottom prevents the fish from sticking.)

2. Add the sauce and water, cover with a lid, and bring to a boil over high heat.

3. Once boiling, reduce to medium heat and simmer. When nearly done, add chili peppers and green onion, then cook for 5 more minutes until finished. (For the best flavor, spoon the sauce over the fish as it simmers.)
